  1. This article talks about the effects of bee colony disorder. Colony collapse disorder is when basically all of the worker bees vanish or leave. A beekeeper could come back and 40,000 bees could just be gone. Beekeepers fix this by simply buying new bees or transferring bees from a healthy colony and putting them into the “dead” colony. Still this disorder greatly affected the prices of almonds because it affected the pollination of almonds. While there have been changes in the pollinator markets, they cannot be linked directly to this disorder, which is good news for beekeepers. Since beekeepers know how to deal with this sort of problem it is not a huge boulder in the road of pollination rather something beekeepers have to get around by using certain methods.

    I think this article was important because I am now curious of the fact of why these bees suddenly leave or disappear. I also believe that considering this problem is sidestepped and can be solved without a great amount of hassle that it should not be a top priority to fix over other world problems. I think this is an annoyance to beekeepers but would not sink an entire business if it happened.

  2. This article talks about how anesthetics may change coloration of certain fish. In one species of fish a brighter color means the male fish will be more aggressive. Researchers took pictures of fish in normal water, fish in water with anesthetics and clove oil, and water with MS22 which is another anesthetic. This proved that anesthetics changed the color. The anesthetics changed the pigment producing cells which changed the color of the fish. This is important because scientists could link the coloration to behavioral properties to see how the fish acted based on these colors and changes.

    I think this article is important because it has a lot of information on this study about the coloration and effect of anesthetics used on fish. This is a good article because after reading it many ideas and questions sprouted in my mind about why these fish act the way they do and what sort of long term effect would anesthetics have on these fish. I believe that the fish should be left to have natural coloration but this did interest me and continues to do so.

    This article talks about the formation of viruses. A scientist and his team focused on one strand of RNA virus. This virus is the most common virus on earth. This virus is responsible for a normal cold, to even polio. This virus is very simple and small. To see this virus the scientists have to use interferometric scattering microscopy. This shows the virus’ size but not its structure. The researchers used this to watch as the virus they had planted steadily grew and could watch and record its growth like never before. They used this to see and learn how viruses form and grow through time and how they differ.

    This article is very important because it is a first in the scientific world. These scientists were the first to be able to see how viruses grow and form, and now that this is out there in the world, it can be improved upon, and used for further research. This is good because if scientists know how viruses grow then they might have a better understanding how how to stop them from spreading and hurting people.

    In this article it talks about how clime change is affecting recreational fishing. it says that in about 2080 recreational fishing will go down by 15%. Changed in levels of rainfall will probably effect peoples wanting to fish from shorelines. This study did not even touch on the effects of changes of populations of fish and or water cleanliness. This study focused on 2004-2009 shoreline recreational fishing information and found out that temperature did play a key role in people wanting to fish or not. An ideal fishing day is known to be 75 degrees. If humans make big change to stop climate change then the decline in fishing could even be stopped only to 2.6%

    This is important to me because I love fishing. I also do not want climate change to occur and drastically change fishing for me because it is something I enjoy. I think that this article is important because it scratches the surface on what climate change could do to affect fishing. I would not like to let this happen because it would affect something I love doing.

    This article is about how owners do not put the right about of dog food for their dogs. Owners are wrong a lot from a almost 50% underestimation to almost 160% overestimation on how much food they should get. Over or under nourishment can affect a dogs long term health. This study made doctors worried because of how often owners did this, whether that being over or under feeding their animals. The best way to problem solve would be to use a kitchen scale. Over eating for small dogs can be especially bad because even a slight increase can affect health and weight drastically. The problem is that people try to measure by eye and most often fail because of it. People are more accurate when using a one cup dry food measuring device.

    This is important because this article talks about how owners sometimes can give dogs too much or too little food and how that can affect their pets. This is important to me because I love my dogs and I want them to live long and healthy lives. Reading this article helps me to be reminded to take care and effort into feeding my pets the right amount
