Antibiotics are medicines that help fight off only bacterial infections but have to be used correctly so they fully get rid of the infection. Antibiotics are very unique medicines but have to be used right. Antibiotic have to follow a schedule so they can kill all the bacteria in their body. They should only be used for severe bacterial infections because your body will eventually get used to the antibiotic and won’t help anymore if you get a more severe infection later. There are 3 main types of antibiotics, natural products, Semi-synthetic products, and completely synthetic products. A number of natural products, penicillin for example, have been discovered that are antibiotics suitable for therapy. Semi-synthetic products are natural products that have been chemically modified in the laboratory (and pharmaceutical facility). Synthetic products are totally made in the laboratory. Sulfanilamide was the first antibacterial agent made totally in the laboratory. Many other sulfa drugs (such as sulfamethoxazole) have since come into use. Today, antibiotics are used to treat almost all severe bacterial infections. Without antibiotics, there would not be a cure for certain diseases. The problem with antibiotics is that the human body and infections will get used to the medicine. Antibiotics are powerful medicines that fight bacterial infections. Used properly, antibiotics can save lives. They either kill bacteria or keep them from reproducing. For example, many people get antibiotics for severe bacterial stomach infections. Your body’s natural defenses can usually take it from there. If a virus is making you sick, taking antibiotics may do more harm than good. A virus will replicate itself into other cells so antibiotics won’t work. Each time you take antibiotics, you increase the chances that bacteria in your body will be able to resist them. Later, you could get or spread an infection that those antibiotics cannot cure. It is very important to finish your antibiotic treatment because some bacteria may survive. Many people say that we are running out of antibiotics. The Bacteria in our bodies is getting resistant towards antibiotics. Antibiotics work in a very unique and complex way. An antibiotic is a selective poison. It has been chosen so that it will kill the desired bacteria, but not the cells in your body. Each different type of antibiotic affects different bacteria in different ways. For example, an antibiotic might inhibit a bacterium’s ability to turn glucose into energy, or its ability to construct its cell wall. When this happens, the bacterium dies instead of reproducing. Penicillin, the first antibiotic has a molecular formula of R-C9H11N2O4S, where R is the variable side chain that differentiates the penicillin from one another. Penicillin is made from Penicillium fungi. Penicillin, the first natural antibiotic discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928.Z-Pak is also a very popular antibiotic. Side effects of antibiotics are usually safe and tolerated, however they have been associated with numerous side effects. Adverse effects range from fever and nausea to major allergic reactions and, common affects include diarrhea, resulting from disruption of the species composition in the intestinal flora, resulting, for example, in overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria. In conclusion, an antibacterial is an agent that inhibits bacterial growth or kills bacteria. Misuse and overuse of these drugs have contributed to a term known as antibiotic resistance. It is recommended that you do not take antibiotics for mild bacterial infections. Antibiotics are used for more of the severe infections that are very hard to cure.
